TRENTON, N.J. (AP) a Rutgers University is reviewing training films of all sports to see if any coach engaged in behavior like the type that charge men's basketball coach Mike Rice his work, the university's president declared Monday. University President Robert Barchi, talking during a town hall meeting on the school's Newark campus, stated that he needs any cases of bullying or homophobic language to be instantly reported. Barchi reiterated that he thought he'd viewed the video where Rice shoved people and called them gay slurs when it first surfaced in November, saying he would have shot Rice then. Meanwhile, Gov. Bob Christie on Monday defended Barchi's handling of the scandal, since the university introduced it plans to commission an independent probe of what happened. A conference Monday was the first-time Christie answered questions about the situation, while he is released claims. He said that ousting Barchi now would have been a error for Rutgers, and he praised the president, who took office in September, for working quickly last week to fireplace men's basketball coach Mike Rice and get Athletic Director Tim Pernetti to resign within times after he a' and the general public a' first seen a video of Rice's behavior in techniques from 2010 through last year. Christie said Rice should have been ousted this past year when university authorities, including Pernetti, a university attorney who has since resigned and a member of the school's board of governor's first saw the video a' or even sooner. Also Monday, Rutgers announced that it's commissioning an independent review of Rice's perform the way the university handled the situation. The scandal has prompted the FBI to investigate whether a former Rutgers baseball worker asked for money from Rutgers in trade for not using the videos public, a person familiar with the study told The Associated Press. Rutgers explained its Board of Governors will meet Thursday to discuss hiring the independent adviser to review the situation. Also Monday, board chairman Ralph Izzo said that one board member a' athletics committee chairman Mark G. Hershhorn a had seen the movie in December. Izzo said that it wasn't shown to other people and while the matter of the coach's conduct was discussed at a board meeting in December, it was not discussed at the whole-board meeting that month. The college didn't straight away answer a to interview Hershhorn. Barchi on Monday seemed at a hall meeting on the university's Newark campus. He'd canceled an identical event as he dealt with the athletic department scandal planned for a week ago. In his remarks Monday, the coach was not mentioned by him. As an alternative, he focused only on a reconfiguration of higher education in Nj-new Jersey.
